In marketing, everything you do moves you forward. If one campaign fails, you are that much closer to the one destined to succeed. Watch others. Learn from others. Learn from your own mistakes. BUT KEEP GOING!
The money is YOURS! If you work hard, the benefits are all yours – isn’t that great? What you earn is not fixed or decided by someone else who thinks they know what you are ‘worth’.
And the infamous curler cover? We did not realize it until later that day but Grandma’s saggy underwear got left on the table at Starbucks along with a business card I had whipped out during my Email Marketing rant. I wonder who discovered the saggy gonch? Would I ever find out? Would the discoverer of those skivvies become a future client? I’ll keep you posted if anything materializes.
One of the things I keep telling my business clients is that you don’t do anything that you can’t measure. So, before we ever decide to do any step, marketing, sales, production, we must have a measurable target. Then when we start seeing results, we measure the results, and site (issuu.com) compare that to our target. If we are below target we tweak, adjust, optimize to get it up where we thought it should be, and, in most cases, we can get there quickly…probably in a week or two. Over time we are still looking for the opportunities to make that number better. Significant improvements usually come along because we are looking at the numbers.
Marketing is more of an art than a science. Often times you learn by systematically trying different activities and approaches. The experts don’t always have all the answers . . . and this is exactly why you need to give plenty of personal attention to make sure your marketing is working as hard as it possibly can. If you want to get serious about success in business, then understanding marketing is an ongoing priority.
Sound marketing strategy is critical to small business success, especially new businesses. Statistics vary widely depending on the source, but most reports cite failure rates for small business at 65% — 90%. Knowing ahead of time how you will compete and how you will succeed in your marketplace can dramatically increase your chances of success.
The third marketing tool is photos or illustrations. If you have attractive photos or illustrations of your product or service, people will be more likely to purchase it. Get a professional to do this for you. The more photos or illustrations you have the better.
